We’ve come along way when it comes to cleaning the home. I don’t know about you but I can still remember when the only carpet cleaning option for the house was similar to the picture here on the left; and that was state of the art! Since then vacuum cleaners have gone all space age and brands like Dyson have taken things to a whole other level. However, even while these developments where taking place, when it came to carpet steam cleaning the professional cleaning services were still king and it was unheard of to do your own steam cleaning.
Not anymore, today there are a plethora of portable, handheld, compact and upright carpet steam cleaners that you can buy at affordable prices and keep in your home whenever you need them. So that’s the good news. The bad news is that like all good new technology the landscape is forever changing. There are several strong brands out there in the market and they are continually bring out new models and updating the features every chance they get. They say choice is good for the consumer, but that’s only true as long as you don’t exhaust yourself just trying to choose.
So what we all need is the best carpet steam cleaner and the only way to find it is by searching for the best carpet steam cleaner reviews. That’s where websites like this become really useful. Here you will find small manageable reviews on many different makes and models as well as articles from other writers from accross the web.
If you want to rave about a model you’ve already bought or give the big thumbs down to a piece of junk you want to see the back of then just contact us.
Before you jump into some of the reviews take a moment to think about your home and the cleaning required. As already mentioned there are so many accessories and features out there you can really help yourself and avoid confusion by defining early on what you really need to get from your steam cleaning machine.
Here are just a few thoughts to get you going,
- How delicate are your rugs and carpets? – Not everyone needs the most powerful cleaner. Perhaps something a bit more gentle that cleans at lower temperatures is for you.
- Who’s causing the mess? – Pets, children and wine lovers all leave different cleaning dilemmas in their wake and different machines can tackle different problems.
- How big’s your home? – If you’re living in a small apartment do you really need a large upright carpet steam cleaner, perhaps a small portable model is more convenient.
- Do you have carpets throughout your home? – Many homes have floorboard and/or floor tiles. Will the steam cleaner help tackle these jobs too? – Time to find out.
- Do you suffer with allergies? – Carpet steam cleaning is know to help remove mites and dust that can aggravate allergies and some models are better than others at focusing on this task.
So that’s just a taster of the types of questions you need to ask and get answers to. Write them down and prioritise them and then you’re ready for the carpet steam cleaner review.

The Clean Shot seems to be the daddy of the ProHeat 2X range. It used to have the highest price tag of all the cleaners in this range, around $330, but can now be bought from Amazon for around $230 and their are plenty of happy 5 star owner reviews.
Certainly this model seems to have all the features on offer. The two sets of 12 inch brushes, built in heater, lots of attachments and with it’s galleon water capacity also works on bare floors as well as carpets and upholstery.
The other great features include the Microban self cleaning system which helps keep the machine itself clear of mold and mildew attacks. Also the hot air system will dry your carpets quicker helping to avoid the same bacteria problems in your carpets. And the clean shot feature that gives this machine it’s name seems to be a very popular feature amongst owners, helping them get at and remove stubborn stains.
Finally the custom clean setting means you can regulate the machine with setting suited to all kinds of jobs. So if you need full heat and pressure for intense jobs then no problem, but if approaching a delicate rug just switch settings for a more gentle clean. A very popular choice.

You probably won’t be surprised to learn that this version of the 2X range has been created with our furry friends in mind. Yes, if your biggest headache when cleaning your carpet is animal mess and odors then you might want to take a look at the Bissell Proheat 2X select pet.
A word to the wise though. On the plus side this model comes with a special six inch cleaning tool especially designed to help tackle specific soiled areas and a special solution for set stains ans odors. On the down side you can only use this machine on carpets and upholstery whereas with the basic proheat select, for more or less the same money, you can also clean bare floors like floor tiles. Also you will have to pay extra if you want this pet version with the Microban self cleaning feature. If pets are your main concern then this could be for you, certainly the owner reviews of this model on Amazon are very positive. If however you want greater versatility perhaps one of the other Bissell models make more sense.

This version of the popular ProHeat 2 range is advertised as being extra tough on household allergens. Apparently this machine will remove up to four times as much embedded dirt, bacteria, odors and general household allergens then other models.
Added to this model are brushes along the edge of the machine for extra close cleaning tight up to walls and other edges and also a special “cleanshot” feature that targets any particular stubborn stains that you may encounter along the way, basically a sort of heavy duty spot stain remover.
There is also a hot air system within the machine that drys the carpets quicker as you go. I can see that this feature would help protect against allergens as the quicker the carpet drys the sooner the bacteria that breed in damp areas will be removed.
To be honest apart from this last feature I’m not sure why this model is any better than the others. It comes with a special anti allergen cleanings formula which clearly will help kill bacteria but I’m not sure whats to stop you putting this solution into a different Bissell model or indeed a completely different brand machine.

Bissell ProHeat 2X
Go on to any review site, look around Amazon or any store selling carpet cleaners and you will realise pretty quickly that Bissell is one of the big and most respected manufacturers of domestic carpet steam cleaners. With around 20 upright models alone this is definitely a brand to consider and with so many models to choose from you could spend all day just working out which Bissell is right for you. Certainly they seem to have a steam cleaner for every occasion.
There stand out model is arguably their ProHeat 2x range. As the name suggests it is the next evolution of the Bissell upright steam cleaner after their original ProHeat model. Even within the ProHeat 2 range there are five different versions of this range to consider. Before we look at each individually lets take an overview of this make and what it’s offering.
Internal water heating – This is a great feature that takes the hot water you put into the machine and then keeps it continually hot through out your work. Depending on the type of carpets and level of grime you are dealing with you can actually heat the water further, taking it up to 25° hotter than normal hot tap water.
1 Galeon Water Tank Capacity – It’s simple the more water you have in the machine the longer you can clean before refilling, great!
Surround Suction – With extra strong suction continuing around the sides of the machine you can be sure of effective cleaning right up to the edges of carpets and walls.
2x 12 inch rotating brushes – With their special dirt lifting brushes, which they promise are strong enough to pull up dirt but soft enough not to damage your carpet, you get a large 12 inch cleaning path.
In up coming reviews we will look at each individual version of the 2X series all of which have their own idiosyncrasies and quirks.

The origins of the Bissell Carpet Cleaning Products are in a family shop, and the need to solve a problem. The problem was removing sawdust from a carpet. Melville Bissell is the man who created a solution. He designed and constructed a carpet sweeper machine that he hoped would put an end to the problem once and for all. His design was a great success, and word of his invention spread quickly by word of mouth, and carpet vacuum cleaners were born.
The modern Bissell upright vacuum cleaners such as the Bissell 3750 include a range of tools and accessories for cleaning most surfaces in the home. Most of these carpet vacuum cleaners also have cunning designs to cope with stairs and other hard to clean places in the home.
The Bissell 3750 upright carpet vacuum cleaner are not hugely expensive compared to many other upright carpet vacuum cleaners, but many customers believe that they are worth every penny. Many wouldn’t trade their Bissell Carpet Cleaning products for anything else.
The use of bag less and Hepa technology is great for cost saving, because cleaning bags can prove to be expensive over the life of a carpet vacuum cleaner. Hepa technology removes over 99% of dust mites and allergens from carpets and floors, and are especially good for asthma sufferers or people with dust allergies.
Bissell have developed a number of other significant house cleaning tools as well. The Bissell Steam Mop for example, uses steam to clean and naturally disinfect floors with nothing but water. The absence of chemicals is a great benefit, especially to those who have allergies to some cleaning agents found in many home cleaning solutions.
Another Bissell product, the Bissell 1200B SpotBot can remove new or old stains irrespective of how long the stains have been present. This cleaner can work on different types of stain too, including wine stains, juice stains or tea and coffee stains.
The Bissell Steam Cleaners are particularly useful if you have pets in the house, especially if those pets have not been house trained. The steam is an effective cleaning agent, but also safe to use for family and for your pets too. [http://www.whatcarpetcleaning.com/bissell/index.html]Bissell Carpet Cleaning goes back 200 years.
